VSAFF fans, April marks the 20th anniversary of the first democratic election in South Africa when Nelson Mandela was elected President.

VSAFF, together with the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation, presents a talk by South African High Commissioner to Canada, Membathisi Mdladlana, at Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre at 2 p.m. on Saturday April 26.

Admission is free so get there early to guarantee a seat.

Those of you who attended VSAFF in 2013 will remember High Commissioner Mdladlana — his charm, intelligence, humour, and his singing voice, were the highlight of that Festival.

This presentation will give the High Commissioner a chance to recall his experiences with Mandela, reminisce about the struggle to build a democratic, non-racial South Africa, and draw lessons from that experience.

It’s an event not to be missed!

Where: SFU Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings St. (Note: this is a different site from the one where VSAFF was held last week)
When: 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26
Cost: Free

The High Commissioner will also attend events celebrating Freedom Day on Saturday evening April 26 and Sunday afternoon April 27. For more information and ticket information please visit sacabc.ca.
