We are thrilled to announce that Ryley Grunenwald’s moving documentary, The Shore Break, will open this year’s VSAFF (Friday, April 8, 7 p.m., SFU Woodward’s).

Featuring stunning cinematography and sensational original music, The Shore Break delivers a visually and emotionally riveting experience that echoes the struggles over development in Canada – many of them in First Nations communities.

The Shore Break has been nominated for 3 SAFTA Awards — the South African Oscars — including Best Full Length Documentary. It’s won numerous international awards, including Best Feature Length Documentary at the Festival International du Film d’Environnement in France.

The Shore Break is a moving dispatch from the front lines of Blockadia. A stunning and beautifully-told story of a community defending its land, and a reminder that indigenous people everywhere are both leading the resistance against toxic extraction and guarding a worldview that holds the key to our collective survival.” — Avi Lewis, Director, This Changes Everything

And Don’t Miss the Party…

The Shore Break will be followed by our fabulous gala party at John Fluevog Shoes in Gastown, one of our wonderful Festival Partners. There’ll be lekker food and music and good company. It’s not to be missed! The VSAFF Gala Night sells out each year so don’t wait long to get your ticket. They are limited. To get into the party, you’ll need to purchase a $50 Gala Night ticket, or the $90 Full Festival Pass.

VSAFF is a co-presentation of SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs.

See you April 8-10!
