VSAFF is proud to support ‘Interweave’ — A Photography Exhibition by Valerie Durant, which runs April 1-28 at the Ukama Gallery on Granville Island.
Valerie Durant is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Vancouver. She received her BFA (2002) from Emily Carr University and attended Cooper Union in NYC. She holds an MA in Planning (2012) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
This photographic exhibition explores the convergence of African cultures, past and present within today’s global society. Climate change has emerged as the greatest challenge facing humanity today. The images selected for this exhibition reflect upon the impact of human interventions on people and their inter-dependence with the natural world.
Some of Valerie’s photographs have a tie-in with this year’s VSAFF. Her Bitter Water Series has similarities with our Gala Film, The Shore Break, and we encourage all VSAFFers to attend her exhibition, which is part of the Capture Photography Festival.
Valerie has kindly donated a 30 x 40 boxed frame photograph for auction at VSAFF.
