2017 VSAFF People’s Choice Awards announced

VSAFF is thrilled to reveal this year’s People’s Choice Award winners in four categories, as voted on by you, our loyal supporters. With so many excellent films this year, the races were close, but there can only be one winner. Congratulations to all the filmmakers!

Best Short Documentary: Poachers Pipeline
Over the course of six months, an Al Jazeera investigative team infiltrates organized criminal syndicates that are moving rhino horn from South Africa to Asia.

Best Short Feature: Soft Landings
A seeming chance encounter between an airplane-obsessed young boy and an aging retired golfer reveals the depths of love, respect and feeling as a family deals with life’s complex journey.

Best Documentary: Nobody’s Died Laughing
The life of Pieter-Dirk Uys, one of South Africa’s most important writers, satirists and activists and the creator of the iconic, provocative and hilarious Evita Bezuidenhout is explored in this award-winning documentary.

Best Feature: Sink
In this intense and penetrating psychological thriller, Rachel, a Mozambican domestic, is forced to make a life-changing decision after her daughter tragically dies while in the care of her South African employers.
